Julie Howard

Music has always been a part of Julie Howard’s life. Her mother claims she sang before she spoke. Her earliest memories are of singing along with her dad’s guitar. In elementary school, her performance debut was at age 6 as Mother Goose for her kindergarten graduation. Julie continued her love of music and performing and took every opportunity to be on stage. At 7, she took a small role in Scott County High School’s Bye, Bye Birdie. While in elementary and middle school, she took part in a wide variety of solo work in both school and church performances.

In high school, Julie continued to be more involved in music and performance and began writing music for piano and voice. She also held the lead roles in Showboat, West Side Story, and The King and I. In addition, she was honored to receive a scholarship to attend the Stephen Foster Music Camp in voice at EKU for 2 consecutive years, and as one of the top vocalists in the state, attended the Governor’s School for the Arts program at Bellarmine College in 1993.

In 1999, Julie returned to school at Georgetown College where she was awarded scholarships and in 2002, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Vocal Performance with a Minor in Communications. While enrolled, Julie performed in numerous group and solo performances where she built her classical repertoire.

In 2001, Julie became acquainted with the Georgetown Community Theatre Group (formerly Maskrafters Community Theatre) where she has performed in 3 productions: as “Maria” in The Sound of Music, as “Mrs. Hoskins” and other supporting roles in My Fair Lady, and as “Abby” in Arsenic and Old Lace. Julie also performed solos in a compilation show put on by the theatre group on the Georgetown College campus in February, 2009.

While music has always been her heart and soul, the extensive talent and background is something for which Julie won’t take credit. In her eyes, singing is a talent that God only let her borrow.

Julie was baptized on Easter Sunday at the First Christian Church in Georgetown at the age of 9. While her life has been challenging at best, her belief in God has always been resolute. There has never been any doubt in her mind that He is with her every step of the way. She firmly believes that knowing God is not about religion, but about relationship and those quiet moments when you remember why God needs you here.

“If I didn’t know that with every step I take, Jesus takes one with me, this world would be empty to me. Through every difficulty I have been through, I have held hard to the fact that I am not alone and that God will never ask me to take on something I am not capable of handling. There are moments when I am not sure how or why I am going to be able to take another breath let alone another step forward, then I remember there is light in this world – I am now and always truly blessed.”

The most special of her many blessings are her family. Julie is married to Jeremy (drummer of NQN), and has a son, Jacob – 14, and two step-children, Hailee – 8 and Dillan – 7.
